Semana Santa
Come and see for yourself the timeless and daunting drums of Semana Santa. The night time parade of hooded characters is both fascinating and yet menacing at the same time with many old and treasured plinths carried at head height portraying the death and resurrection of christ. Every day of the week the Semana Santa processions take place regaining something of what existed in the past, the next generation fills the following week in which silence takes possession of the population of Caspe the Ramo's procession on the Sunday morning and Sunday night Route Crucis for all of the population. Monday night the showy and spectacular staging of The judgment on the parochial church steps. Monday night, and Tuesday will be the Meeting where the population of Caspe congregate in the Plaza de Espaina. On Wednesday the Silence with alternate drums in the night procession. On Thursday all of a sudden, almost without warning, the Santos officials, start the procession of the Descent and Breaking the hour. On Friday evening the procession of Saint Burial a human, multicoloured, solemn procession will wind the streets and squares accompanied by the deafening rolls of drums, bass-drums and strident laments of bugles. Between the flowers the candles and incense will walk Christ's aching image supporting the weight of the world in a cross, crucified and a dead man his mother, pain in the eyes, will accompany him disconsolate and afflicted all the way to the Calvary. On Saturday night. The bells return to Caspe sounding their joy singing resounds from the church and the drums will join in tumultuous joy to what is celebrated that day.
